Care Groups Coordinator
Position: Full-Time Hourly, FLSA non-exempt
Reports To: Pastor of Care
Campus: Wilmington
Pay Range: entry level $17-$19/hour dependent upon experience
PURPOSE
The Care Groups Coordinator is an integral part of the Care Team at Port City Community Church, responsible for developing, supporting, and overseeing the ongoing health of our Care Groups — the communities where members find spiritual formation, mutual support, and consistent connection through life’s challenges and transitions. Care Groups are a primary way the church moves people from isolation into belonging and from crisis into ongoing care, making this role central to the mission of the Care ministry. In addition to strong organizational and systems skills, the Care Groups Coordinator must possess excellent interpersonal skills and spiritual discernment, work with empathy and sensitivity, and maintain high confidentiality.

Must possess training and development skills.
Must be action and goal-oriented.
Experience must include program development and execution.
Must have an understanding of and respect for clinical mental health (however a degree or experience in mental health is not required).
Must exemplify and advocate for the bridging of the church and mental health.
Must be able to assist in financial planning and management of the operations of the Care ministry.
Must be computer literate.
Excellent organization and diplomacy skills are essential.
Must be highly ethical and able to process sensitive information confidentially.
Must demonstrate an acceptable balance of confidence and humility, and must be willing to proactively address issues in accordance with scripture and in alignment with the Port City Community Church statement of faith.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the day-to-day operations of Care Groups at Port City Community Church, ensuring groups are healthy, well-supported, and aligned with the mission of the Care ministry.
Recruit, train, equip, and shepherd Care Group leaders, providing ongoing coaching, encouragement, and accountability.
Develop and maintain a clear pathway for launching new Care Groups, including leader identification, group formation, and multiplication.
Curate and resource appropriate curriculum and discussion materials for Care Groups across various needs and life stages (e.g., grief, recovery, support, and spiritual formation).
Manage Care Group logistics, in coordination with the Care Admin, including scheduling, locations, room and resource reservations, registration, and communication with participants.
Work with Care staff to connect individuals seeking care into the most appropriate Care Group, in coordination with the broader Care intake and placement process.
Become the expert and primary administrator of Care Group systems (databases, spreadsheets, registration platforms, and file storage).
Track group health, attendance, and outcomes, and provide regular reporting to the Pastor of Care to inform decisions and demonstrate impact.
Provide consistent presence and follow-up for Care Group leaders and participants, escalating to Care staff when situations require additional pastoral or clinical support.
Collaborate with the Community Team to ensure healthy alignment and clear pathways between Community Groups and Care Groups.
Work alongside the Connect Team on Sundays to provide an intentional touch point for those looking for care and connection.
Attend weekly Care staff meetings, and monthly All-staff and Wilmington staff meetings.
Participate generally in the life and work of Port City Community Church.
General Work Schedule:
Full time hourly, 40 hours.
Sunday Gatherings 8:00–1:00, Monday–Thursday 9:00–5:00. During Care Groups—hours can flex as needed.
All Port City staff are required to work Christmas Eve weekend and Easter Sunday services.
Note: All full-time jobs are to be scheduled at 40 hours unless otherwise noted in the job description. Part time hours are to be scheduled to the amount of hours that have been budgeted for the position.
