Human Limits and God’s Glory

READ

Faith isn't the absence of questions; it's the willingness to follow the light even when the destination remains unclear.

Let’s take a moment to read Matthew 2:9-11:

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

REFLECT

The magi traveled far on the strength of a mystery—following a star toward something they couldn't fully explain. Their journey represents the seeking heart: quiet, patient, willing to let faith push beyond the limits of understanding. When they finally encountered the Christ child, they didn't demand explanations. They simply fell down in worship, offering their treasures to One whose glory exceeded anything they'd imagined. True encounter with Love Incarnate changes us at depths words can't reach. After seeing Christ, the magi couldn't return the way they came. Neither can we.

RESPOND

Take a moment to process what God might be leading you to do in light of what you read.

  • What would it look like for you to follow God's light even when the destination remains unclear?

REST

Take a moment to rest in God’s presence and consider one thing you can take away from your time reading, then close your devotional experience by praying:

God of Wonder, give us the seeking hearts of the magi—willing to follow You even when the journey is long and uncertain. Push the limits of our understanding, inviting us into mysteries that exceed our grasp. Teach us that faith isn't about having all the answers, but about being willing to follow the light we've been given. When we finally encounter You, may we respond with worship that holds nothing back. Change us through these encounters with Your glory. Don't let us leave Your presence unchanged. Lead us forward by new paths, transformed by Love Incarnate, carrying Your light into a world that desperately needs it. Amen.
