Provision & Peace
Today, we set aside the impulse to evaluate, analyze, or intellectualize this week’s section of Sermon on the Mount. Instead, we turn to prayer, asking God to transform us from the inside out through His Word.
Rather than imposing our thoughts, feelings, and assumptions onto the text, we come before Him in humility, inviting Him to speak what our hearts need most to hear. We ask Him to teach us, shape us, and accomplish within us the work of transformation that only He can bring.
Begin your devotional experience by praying:
Gracious God, make my heart receptive to Your Word. Help me to meditate on Your message without becoming defensive, dismissive, or self-deceptive. Humble me before You and prepare me to receive whatever You have for me. Speak to me through Your Word today, and transform me in a way that honors You and the children You so love.

Matthew 6:19-21
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
PRAY
Abba, I confess I often focus too much on accumulating earthly treasures. I devote far too much of my time and energy to seeking the approval of others and pursuing material security. Forgive me, in Your mercy, and redirect me. Remind me that I cannot carry the possessions or achievements of this world into Your Kingdom. Remind me that no amount of worldly wealth or recognition can satisfy the deepest longings of my heart. In Your grace, help me reinvest my energy so I might work to store up treasures in heaven. Show me how to rearrange my priorities so that I value what is eternal over what is temporary. Help me to dedicate my life to the pursuit of the things that last.

Matthew 6:22-23
“Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”
PRAY
Lord, I confess I often look to the wrong things to provide me with the joy, peace, security, and pleasure my soul craves. Empower me to look to You alone to meet my greatest needs and deepest desires! You are the only One Who can bring true light into my life! Lord, when my eyes wander and I convince myself that other, lesser things can satisfy me, quickly and lovingly correct me. Show me how to have healthy sight, looking only to Your cross and empty tomb to give me the peace and provision I need to face each day.

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”
PRAY
Father, thank You for being a jealous God. You want my whole heart, not because You are narcissistic or need my praise, but because You want what is best for me—and it is best for me to be devoted to You alone. God, there are so many idols in my life that I allow to capture my affections and direct my decisions. Help me to identify the lesser “masters” that I let have control over me. Free me from allowing them to dictate my values, shape my worldview, or guide my conduct. In Your grace, help me to place myself solely under Your authority, rather than trying to divide my loyalty between You and the things of this world. You alone deserve my praise and devotion! You are the only trustworthy Master!

Matthew 6:25-34
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
PRAY
Abba, thank You for faithfully providing for me and for all Your creation! When I am overwhelmed with worry, remind me of Your loving care for every living thing. Remind me how You feed the birds of the air and dress the lilies of the field with pure beauty! If You so lovingly tend to them, You will certainly do the same for me. God, empower me to give my anxious cares over to You, trusting that You know my needs before I ever think to ask You to meet them. Lord, remind me that worrying does not benefit me. Remind me that allowing my anxiety to go unchecked only works to drain me of energy and steal me of joy. In Your grace, help me to notice when I am feeding into my worry rather than combatting it with Your Truth. Give me strength to stop fueling anxious thought spirals and return to what I know: that You are a good, loving, and trustworthy Provider. Place Your peace in my heart, Lord, so that I can focus on what matters most, rather than what feels urgent in the moment. Let me seek Your Kingdom above all else, knowing that the details of my life rest under Your loving control. Amen.
