High School Volunteer & Community Coordinator

Position: Full-Time Hourly, non-exempt from overtime
Reports To: Pastor of High School Ministries
Campus: Wilmington
Pay Range: $17-$19/hour dependent on experience 

Purpose:

The Ripple Effect Volunteer & Community Coordinator is responsible for cultivating a culture in which high school students can be encouraged in a walk with God and find a community where they are known and loved. Working with the student ministry team, this position will provide ongoing leadership and administrative structure to a team of volunteers who will create safe community group environments for students to encounter Jesus.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be a believer of Jesus Christ and an active participant of Port City Community Church (a history of active participation is preferable)

  • Must demonstrate a value of and naturally participate in personal evangelism

  • Must be passionate about creating and maintaining systems to recruit, train, care for, and lead volunteers

  • Must be a team-oriented person with the ability to design, implement, and mature objectives in the student ministry with a focus on community and care environments.

  • Must excel in ministry commitment, conduct, and professionalism

  • Must possess training and development skills

  • Must be action- and goal-oriented

  • Experience must include program development and execution.  Must be able to assist in financial planning and management of the operations of the student ministry

  • Must be computer literate

  • Excellent organization and diplomacy skills are essential

  • Must be highly ethical and able to process sensitive information confidentially

  • Must demonstrate an acceptable balance of confidence and humility and must be willing to proactively address issues in accordance with scripture and in alignment with the Port City Community Church statement of faith 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer-focused Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the development of a clear vision and goals for all student ministry group leaders & coaches, with a focus on high school ministry.

  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, training (initial and ongoing), care, and appreciation of high school ministry leaders and coaches.  

  • Work with high school group leaders to develop community in their groups, to care for their group members, and to help connect their students to care resources as needed.

  • Maintain a structure of care and oversight for small group leaders by:

    • Providing consistent communications to leaders concerning ministry updates and events.

    • Build and lead a team of volunteer coaches who oversee and care for group leaders

    • Regularly meeting with coaches for training and care of both the coach and the group leaders under their care.

  • Responsible for maintaining a database of groups in Planning Center for staff and leader use.

  • Responsible for ensuring all volunteer background checks and Child Safety training is complete and compliant

Administrative/Operational Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ongoing purchasing of supplies for small groups and community groups, and keeping all necessary supplies stocked, organized, and ready for ministry use. 

  • Responsible for reserving spaces and AV needs for events and groups, communicating with Director of Operations regarding any special events and cleaning needs, etc. 

  • Collaborate with SM team members where programming and community overlap, such as weekly events, training events, large student ministry events (like retreats, camps, etc.), and the host team. Coordinate details such as rooming, attendance, etc. 

  • Contribute to regular student ministry planning and review meetings.

General Work Schedule: Full Time

  • Monday – Shorter work day with meetings (review/planning) – 6 hours

  • Tuesday – Regular work day with meetings (review/planning) – 8 hours

  • Wednesday – Regular work day– 8 hours

  • Thursday – Regular work day with meetings (review/planning) – 8 hours

  • Sunday – Longer work day (high school) – 10 hours

Christmas and Easter: All Port City Staff regardless of position, status, etc. are required to work Christmas Eve services and Easter weekend services.
Overnight Assignments: This position requires a few overnight events/travel each year, including Fuse Summer camp, Winter Retreat, etc. Exact dates to be determined each year.
