This Western NC Encounter Team is part of our long-term disaster response to Hurricane Helene.

Participation in a construction project by Avery County Habitat for Humanity, bringing people together to build homes, community, and hope.

As a part of this team, you will…

  • Explore the various stages of effective disaster response

  • Work alongside local community residents and/or future homeowners

  • Participate in the construction of a home with Avery County Habitat for Humanity

  • Discuss the core values of Mobilization at Port City

This Encounter Team will help you to understand the dynamic nature of disaster response, discover how empowerment is contextual, and challenge you to reconsider well intentioned acts of service.

Location

We will partner with Avery County Habitat for Humanity in order to provide permanent housing for Avery County residents.

Key Dates

Preparation:
Four Sessions prior to travel (TBD)

Travel:
August 2 - 8, 2026 (Sunday-Saturday)

Debrief:
One Session after travel (TBD)

Cost

$500/person
(includes transportation, lodging, and most meals)
