Community Group Coordinator

Position: Full-time, Salary (Exempt)
Reports To: Pastor of Community

Pay Range: $47,621 - $52,983

PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to steward and execute Port City’s vision for discipleship by helping people experience life with God in authentic, formative community.

This individual cultivates healthy Community Groups by developing leaders, building effective systems, and creating clear pathways for people to connect, belong, and grow. Through this work, they help ensure that every person has the opportunity to be known, cared for, and spiritually formed within community.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

  • Committed follower of Jesus and active participant at Port City Community Church (preferred history of involvement)

  • Demonstrates a lifestyle of personal evangelism

  • Team-oriented, with the ability to design, implement, and grow ministry objectives

  • Passionate about Jesus and His impact on people’s lives

  • Demonstrates strong character, professionalism, and ministry commitment

  • Skilled in training, development, and leadership

  • Action- and goal-oriented

  • Strong organizational, communication, and relational skills

  • Experience in program development and execution

  • Able to assist with financial planning and ministry operations

  • High integrity with the ability to handle confidential information

  • Balances confidence and humility; willing to address issues in alignment with scripture and Port City’s statement of faith

  • Proficient with basic technology

  • Available Sundays and flexible throughout the week, including some evenings

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Lead & Execute Vision

  • Partner with the Pastor of Community to design and implement the vision and strategy for Community Groups

  • Ensure Community Groups remain visible, accessible, and aligned with the church’s mission and culture

  • Regularly evaluate and strengthen the overall health and effectiveness of Community Groups

Cultivate Healthy Community

  • Foster environments where people are known, cared for, and growing in their faith

  • Monitor group health and engagement, stepping in to support or strengthen groups when needed

  • Help ensure consistent care, connection, and spiritual formation across all groups

Create Pathways for People

  • Oversee systems and processes that connect people into groups

  • Identify and remove barriers to connection and belonging

  • Design and implement strategies and events that help people take next steps into community

Develop & Support Leaders

  • Recruit and onboard new Community Group Leaders to expand capacity

  • Design and lead training that equips leaders to shepherd people well and cultivate healthy group environments

  • Provide ongoing development, encouragement, and accountability for leaders

  • Build relationships with leaders through prayer, care, and regular connection

  • Navigate difficult conversations with wisdom, humility, and alignment to scripture

Build Systems & Communication

  • Develop and maintain clear communication rhythms with Community Group Leaders (e.g., newsletters, updates, resources)

  • Identify, develop, and distribute group study materials and resources

  • Support financial planning and operational coordination for the Groups ministry

Collaborate Across Teams

  • Partner with staff teams to support the needs of group members and leaders, including promotion, care, service opportunities, and content

  • Work with the Gatherings Team to keep Groups consistently in front of the church

  • Collaborate with Story Creative to share stories of life change through Community Groups

  • Collaborate with the Mobilization Team to create opportunities for groups to connect, serve, and grow together

Drive Engagement & Growth

  • Plan and implement events and initiatives that increase connection, participation, and group engagement

  • Continually assess and adapt strategies to better serve the church body and its evolving needs

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time (40 hours/week, excluding lunch)

  • Sunday: 8:00am – 1:00pm

  • Monday–Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm

  • Tuesday evenings: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

  • All Port City staff, regardless of role or part/full employment status, are required to work during the Christmas Eve and Easter services.
