ENCOUNTER TEAMS
What are Encounter Teams?
What are Encounter Teams?
Encounter Teams are places of deep spiritual formation. From preparing and praying together as a team, to learning from and serving others together, to wrestling through the implications of what you have learned on your life back home, Encounter Teams provide opportunities for formative community and true pursuit of life with Jesus.
COME AND SEE
Hurricane Helene had a devastating impact on Western NC, and we know that long-term efforts are best led from within the community. Therefore, we are partnering with Avery County Habitat for Humanity to provide permanent housing solutions for their region. This is a service-based team that will explore the topic of effective disaster recovery efforts.
WESTERN NC
SOUTH TEXAS
Border Perspective offers first hand experience of the U.S./Mexico borderlands (South Texas) and a glimpse into the lives of those who live there everyday. As a team, we explore immigration through the lens of Scripture. This is a service-learning team, combining both classroom-type learning content with service opportunities.
ALABAMA SANKOFA
Sankofa refers to the concept of gleaning wisdom from the past, then applying that wisdom to imagine a better future. Literally translated, it means to go back and get it. This Encounter Team will go back and get the civil rights history of the United States as it relates to race and then apply that history towards racial healing within our current context.
